Who Do You Feel Closest To?

Today’s BlogHer NaBloPoMo question is Who do you feel closest to in your life?

That’s a tough question for me to answer, honestly. All of my life, there is only one true person that I’ve ever felt closest to, the one person that I could share anything and everything with who just totally seemed to “get me” if you will.

That was my nana, Betty Wildermuth. I loved her dearly, and lost her to ovarian cancer when I was a teen in high school – my sophomore year to be exact. It just tore me apart inside for many years after she died. I’ve learned that, while her physical body is no longer here; however, she is always ever-present around me. For that, I am grateful, and I talk with her most every day.

Aside from my nana, if we are talking real-life flesh and blood individuals I would have to say that I feel closest to my sister. She “gets me” too and even though we’ve had horrific fights and sometimes didn’t speak to each other for weeks at a time, I have always loved her and I know that she’s always loved me. We are family – and family stands by each other through thick and thin, through the good and the bad, through the ups and the downs. There have been times when she was the only one that I could talk to who I knew would not judge or criticize but love and support and offer advice that only a sister can.

She is the person that I feel closest to in my life.
